BACKGROUND

In November 1998, recommendations of the Joint Senate/House of Commons Sub-Committee's report, For the Sake of the Children,” called for a major overhaul of the Divorce Act, to do away with such destructive notions as custodial and non-custodial parents.  It recommended an equal role to both parents in the parenting of their children after a divorce. The report also called for immediate fundamental research into the child support laws. We know of no government initiative for such a fundamental review. The recommendations came out two years ago! Minister McLellan has made only vague promises of consultations and commitments to consider the recommendations.

OUR CONCERNS

To protect the best interests of children of separation and divorce by ensuring they have full and uninterrupted contact with both parents and extended family forever!

OBJECTIVE

Get a detailed commitment for change BEFORE the election from Justice

Minister McLellan and the Attorney General.
