Next Plastic Recycling Date – September 10

As reported in the last newsletter, our Plastic Collection process will continue from 10 -12 p.m.on the 2nd Saturday of every month. With regards to SOFT PLASTIC, the Recycling Plant manager told us recently that he would have to have the soft plastic processing equipment installed by the end of this year. We like to think that we can believe him so please hold on for another few months.

Next collection -- September 11th at the corner of Bank Street and Leighton from 10 AM to noon.

Traffic Improvements

With the revision to the Leighton/Fort intersection and the speed hump on Leighton at Jubilee, the city has completed stage one of our Transporation Management Plan on schedule - AND there could be more. The City has advised that they may have found the funds to install the stage two raised crosswalk at Redfern Park this year.

Sundance Mural

Our matching grant proposal for a partnership project between Sundance School and the Victoria College of Art has been approved by the City. After a designer process adjudicated by the Sundance students, they will do the actual painting of the chosen design on Friday, October 22nd, 1999. Parents and residents will be there to watch the process, provide support and cheer them on. Come along and enjoy the fun.

New Bus Route

BC Transit has proposed a new bus route, Finlayson #8, to connect our part of town with Hillside, Mayfair and Tillicum malls, as well as Camosun College's Lansdowne and Interurban campuses. It's scheduled to begin service January 2000, running every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday. For more info go to BC Transit's website at www.transitbc.com/victoria. Comments and concerns can be directed to the BC Transit Planner Malcolm MacPhail at 385-2551 or e-mail at malcolm_macphail@bctransit.com.
