ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AMERICAN COMICS edited by Ron Goulart

This book covers both comic books and comic strips, with entries covered alphabetically.

Some decent coverage of various strips and creators in terms of length. unfortunately glaring errors show up from time to time. Example: Gerard Jones mentions that Angel was killed off in X-Factor. Angel had returned from the dead well before the book got published.

There are also some curious omissions, both in terms of creators and in titles. No mention at all for example is given to the Legion of Super-Heroes. Most series starting later on are not covered unless they're comic strips rather than comic books.

Not without its merits and worth flipping through at the library but hardly a great resource.
