QUESTPROBE
RUN: 3 issues out of ?? 1985-86
KEY CREATORS: John Romita (Sr?)
& Jim Mooney (artists)
OUTLINE: To save an other
dimensional
race, their servant the Chief Examiner appears on Earth and copies powers
and memories from heroes to fight the bad guys
STANDOUT/DUD ISSUES: None that
stand out.
OVERALL: Given that the series
was to tie into a computer game line, and that the games themselves
weren't
all that good, this series plays better than one might expect. However,
it's still within the territory of standard superhero fare, and why the
creators made the lead have a better than one might expect. However, it's
still within the territory of standard superhero fare, and why the
creators
made the lead have a fishbowl head helmet when Mysterio is often mocked
by fans for a similar
garb is not clear.
People reader this second hand
actually
have an advantage over fans of the time since there was around a three
month wait between issues. However, the series' downfall is that it was
planned as a ?? issue mini-series, of which only 3 issues came out before
the computer line went under and thus the comic (Overstreet often lists
4 issues but it was 3).
RECOMMENDED OR NOT? Had the series
run to completion, it probably would have straddled the fence between
recommended
or not. As it is, the series ends mid-story, so not recommended.
CONTINUITY NOTES: Another Chief
Examiner story featuring the X-Men (possibly intended as #4) appeared in
Marvel Fanfare v1. Mark Gruenwald tied up remaining loose ends in
Quasar.
