There are several of these companies operating in the States.  The
first type - advise to use caution
The company advises that there is money in an account in some
State that may belong to the consumer and for a fee of $10.00 or
more the consumer will be given instructions on how to claim it. 
The second category involves a company that traces a real owner of
property and on finding him or her, offers to disclose the nature
of the windfall for a fee, often as high as 50% of the value of
the property.

If you do hire a company to locate missing property, most States
set limits, averaging 15% of the value of the property.  Different
States have various laws regarding unclaimed or abandoned
