1August 1993 2 3 Financial Position of Immigrants to Canada 4 5 .....edited by Marijan Salopek 6 7 ================================= 8 9 Order in Council, 11 September 1908 10 11 His Excellency the Governor-General-in-Council, in virtue of the 12 provisions of Section 20 of the Immigration Act, Chapter 93, 13 Revised Statues of Canada, 1906, is pleased in view of the labor 14 conditions and of the probable supply and demand for laborers in 15 Canada during the coming winter to Order, and it is hereby 16 Ordered, that in the case of immigrants arriving at Canadian 17 Ports between the 1st day of January and the 15th day of 18 February, 1909, the Immigration Agent at any port shall require 19 every immigrant, male or female, 18 years of age or over, to have 20 in his or her possession money to the minimum amount of $50.00, 21 in addition to a ticket to his or her destination in Canada, 22 unless satisfactory evidence is furnished that the immigrant is 23 going to some definite employment, or to relatives or friends 24 already settled in Canada who would take care of such immigrant, 25 and that on the last mentioned date the money qualification above 26 prescribed be reduced to the minimum amount of $25.00 for each 27 immigrant, and so remain until further ordered.
