Unlike Flanagan's "Java in a Nutshell" (cf. BKJAVANS.RVW), it doesn't devote much space to the concepts of object-oriented programs and programming. Unlike the Arnold/Gosling work of similar title (cf. BKJAVAPL.RVW), it is more practical and less abstract in its view of the language. Sample code is used extensively, sometimes seemingly in place of, rather than in support of, explanation. The sample code is interesting and useful, but often seems longer than is necessary for the topic under discussion. copyright Robert M.
