And, since many people don't even know that there is more to the net than simply Netscape, therefore the Internet means multimedia. Dean has put together a very brief starting guide for multimedia resources and use of the net. The first part of the book, as with all the "Pocket Tour" series, is a very brief explanation of net connectivity and use. In this book it is extended by more detail on dial-up IP Internet links, and the hardware and software needed for multimedia use, particularly with Web browsers. The remainder of the work, dealing with resources for multimedia and sites using multimedia, is somewhat disappointing. Most of the software sites listed are archives like Simtel. These are, of course, huge resources, but the operative word is huge. There is almost no direction as to the specifics of what might be found, and dew directions in regard to the directories where one can find the useful stuff. The clip media, interactive, demo, and industry sites are a good selection, but more interesting than vital. copyright Robert M.
