The subtitle is "a visual guide to the basics", and that is quite accurate. 
This book does provide, in picturebook fashion, a useful and reasonable guide
to using DOS/Wintel computers.  Too often, this type of book merely throws
trivia at the reader.  In this case, the book does explain important functions
and activities such as moving between fields in a dialogue box and resizing
windows.  The material is not extensive, of course, and would bore any
moderately competent computer user to tears, but for the complete novice the
topics are well chosen to get them over the initial hurdle.  The explanations
and illustrations are suitable for the level addressed.
