BKINTNAV.RVW) and the importance of "Finding It On the Internet" (cf. BKFINDINT.RVW), Gilster's "The Mosaic Navigator" (cf. BKMOSNAV.RVW) was a bit of a disappointment. There was, basically, nothing wrong with it, but it was no better than any number of similar works. "The SLIP/PPP Connection" is disappointing in the same way, and for the same reason. Whether Serial Link Internet Protocol (SLIP) or Point to Point Protocol (PPP), a dial-up IP connection is essential for those who want graphical access to the net. Almost all access providers now offer some form of IP service, and they try to make it as easy as possible to install. I have not yet, however, found one that works right out of the box. While Gilster's explanation of the concepts of dial-up IP is very good and his chapters on various Internet client applications are helpful, it is the installation and setup of the IP connection itself that should be central. The coverage is as good as most, and has a few good tips. It just isn't what it could have been. And it isn't what some people will need. copyright Robert M.
