But nothing much that you won't find in the Novell docs. The general network information is pretty disorganized. Chapter two, on the components of a network, manages to avoid talking about cabling (until chapter six) and network interface cards (until chapter eleven). Although the book assumes a knowledge of DOS and Windows, it sticks pretty close to NetWare jargon. Chapter seven talks a lot, without saying much, about how to organize "container objects" (directories) and "leaf objects" (files). Then, it does the same thing all over again, in chapter twelve, with "contexts" (directories, again). Yes, I know that these terms have other, more important, meanings in NetWare, but you won't learn much about them here. (The book also hews to the party line on NDIS, the Network Device Interface Specification.) Security is cited as a major reason for moving to NetWare 4.1 and security is the acid test of a NetWare guide. The explanation of "effective" security is, as is all too common, weak and unclear. Chapter eighteen, "Putting NetWare Security to Work", misses it altogether. copyright Robert M.
