It remembers. It prompts. It even suggests. It doesn't explain, but hey, what do you want for under ten bucks? At only sixty four pages thin, and the size of a paperback, its only about as big as a three-and-a-half-inch floppy. Well, maybe more like *two* floppies. But you can stick it in behind your plastic pocket pen protector and nobody'll be any the wiser. Except you. Yessireebob, little lady, it's got all the commands from NT *and* the Resource Kit, grouped under the topics help, general purpose, administrative, directories, files, disks and filesystems, Registry, network, TCP/IP, processes, services, and users and groups. A two page chart lists all the commands (well, yes ma'am, I grant you it would have been more helpful to print them on opposing pages) while the rest of the book gives the command, arguments, a brief description, and options. Nossir, we *haven't* forgotten the WIMPs. The GUI administrative tools are listed, along with the filenames for invokin' 'em from the command line, should you be of a mind to do so. There's also a right handy little list of GUI tips and tricks, including a bunch of keyboard shortcuts. (Well, now that you mention it, I'd have use for the keyboard shortcut to jump from item to item around the screen myself, for those times when the dang rodent's gone belly up.) And for not one cent more, you also get a collection of Windows NT related Web site resources. Now look here kid, I wouldn't be shillin' for this here text if'n I didn't believe in it. It took me all of ten minutes to read through it the first time, and in that one pass I learned of a couple of commands that I didn't know about, and figure I'll have to put to use right soon to see how they work. The only reason this won't be right out on my desk is I figure some varmint might just make off with it if I do. copyright Robert M. Slade, 1998 BKWNTDTR.RVW 980305
