I can see the need for this type of strategic discussion from a CAP
perspective but I also think there is a need to have a broader =
discussion on
the role of community ICT/community informatics and the still absent
national digital strategy...

Something along the lines of (which I think would complement and support =
the
CAP futures workshop...

Towards a role for Communities in a National Digital Strategy

Canada almost alone among its OECD colleagues has yet to make available =
a
national digital strategy indicating the broad framwork for the =
universal
access to Broadband among other issues. While others have articulated =
how
such a strategy might support industrial and business initiatives there
remains the need to ensure that local communities including those in =
rural
and remote Canada are in a position to benefit from digital =
developments.
This panel will discuss the role that geographical communities and
particularly indigenous and rural and remote communities can most
effectively participate in and benefit from national digital strategy =
and a
plan for universal broadband access.

Comments?

Hi folks. We really do need to submit a workshop proposal to the=20
B.C. Summit re: CAP and where it is going. Here is a starter=20
workshop proposal for you to think about and rework. I've done this=20
quite a few times, so I'm running out of ideas on how to reframe=20
it. We do have to keep it around this length. Let's get this out=20
sometime this week.

Rebranding CAP

This session will examine the current status of the CAP program in=20
the federal policy agenda and discuss the various campaigns across=20
the country aimed at maintaining federal funding. It will=20
specifically seek input on how to reposition the program to meet=20
current policy objectives and how to sell that vision to elected=20
representatives. Speakers will include CAP administrators from Nova=20
Scotia, Nunavut, B.C. and ????
