My apologies for not sending these out sooner.

Telecommunities Canada teleconference, Wednesday September 19, 1 PM =
Eastern Time

Participants:

Garth Graham
Marita Moll
Gareth Shearman
James Van Leeuwen

Apologies:

Norah Fountain
Peter Frampton
Michael Gurstein
Lorraine Plourde
Darlene Thompson

Agenda:

1. The CIRA election
2. Toronto ICANN meeting
3. A Canadian ISOC Chapter?
4. Canadian Internet Transit Exchanges
5. CAP follow on.

1. The CIRA Election:
Marita attended the CIRA AGM yesterday and was able to gain valuable =
insights on the candidates and their platforms. She will share her =
insights with the list, which will help us be informed voters.

2. Toronto ICANN meeting:
Gareth wants to encourage everyone who can possibly be in Toronto the =
week of October 15th to 19th to attend the ICANN meeting. There is no =
charge to attend. You can identify yourselves as representing =
Telecommunities Canada and there is an on line registration tool

For more information see:
http://toronto45.icann.org/

3. A Canadian ISOC Chapter?
There is interest in establishing a chapter of the Internet Society in =
Canada or one of its regions. There is an active Chapter in Quebec and =
there was a Canadian Chapter which is no longer active. Garth and =
Gareth have agreed to support the individual on the West Coast who is =
particularly interested in this issue.
There was much discussion about how TC could be most effective in the =
current circumstances and what its relationship should be with =
organizations such as ISOC and iCanada.

4, Canadian Internet Transit Exchanges:
CIRA is promoting the establishment of Transit Exchanges to help keep =
Canadian Internet traffic in Canada. TC would like to support this =
initiative and there was discussion about the difference between CIRA's =
vision and the Academic and Research Transit Exchanges pioneered by =
BCNet.

5. CAP follow on - we know that Nova Scotia and Nunavut have stepped in =
to continue in their areas, Our contact in PEI is trying to find a way =
to continue with their sites and the BC Government has been approached =
with no success.
