Hello all. After taking a year off to support Kevin McArthur, I decided
to put myself forward again as a candidate for the CIRA (Canadian
Internet Registration Authority) board. In order to stay on the list, I
need 20 people to support my candidature. To do this you must be a CIRA
member. If you are a member, go to:
https://elections.cira.ca/2013/support/declaration/en
Show support period runs from Aug. 21 till Sept. 4.
If you are not a member and are the owner of a .ca domain name, you must
become a member before the end of Aug. 26th. It is free. If you did
this last time, your membership would still be valid. You don't have to
renew.

The items I have highlighted in my statement this year are: the need to
keep Canadian internet traffic in Canada by supporting more robust
Canadian internet exchange points; the importance of using the $$$ in
the new community investment fund to support on-the-ground community
projects; and the need to make some changes to CIRA governance
procedures to make sure that there is more gender equity on the board.
For more information see:

CIRA is a non-profit organization that manages the .ca domain registry
and, as such, manages a key part of Canada's internet infrastructure.
It states, as its mission, fostering the development of .ca as a key
public resource for all Canadians by providing stable, secure and
trusted domain name services and by taking a leadership role in shaping
Canada' internet for the benefit of .ca domain holders. They also want
to have a positive influence in communities where they provide serve and
do business. So I think community networks of all kinds should be
represented there somehow.
Many thanks
Marita
