The PCNA has been invited to help plan the STRONG conference coming up in M=
ay. http://fnbc.info/fntc/news_and_events/conferences
I'm not sure how much influence we will have since it looks like it is pret=
ty much already put together and planned.
I have put the information out to the BC List about the John Webb Community=
Champions award (see below). I wanted to say that if I was able to hand-=
pick a winner for the 2013 John Webb Community Champions Award it would be =
Gary Shearman. I told you this last year Gary, and I truly mean it. We d=
id not even know we were a community network (Powell River) until Gary came=
up and told me that in 1994 at an Economic Development conference in Nanai=
mo. I believe Gary has been a tireless champion at home, across the count=
ry and around the world. I wanted a chance to say that since no matter wh=
o the award is given to this year......Gary you deserve it and I know John =
Webb would agree with me :)
I still hold out hope that one day soon we can return to hosting a Communit=
y Networks conference...but until we can pull that one off, the STRONG conf=
erence looks like a good conference to attend. I will find out at the next=
planning meeting whether or not there is room on the agenda for our input.
I'll keep you all posted.

The John Webb Community Champion Award was started in 2006 and first presen=
ted to Arvo Koppel at the 2007 Summit in Vancouver, BC. Winners since the=
n include Don Maki, Harry Adam, John Kerr and Peter Brand. The award, in m=
emory of John Webb is to honor folks who share the same values and determin=
ation that John had when it came to community networking. John always sto=
od up for the underdog and looked for common sense solutions which is neede=
d when working with technology. John championed the community cause inside =
government and got results.
John demonstrated:
* Innovation
* Ability to get people from diverse backgrounds to work together * Dedicat=
ion to and talent for empowering others * Attention to the "least served" f=
olks * Servant Leadership, energy and passion for the cause of community ne=
tworking
These five John Webb traits are what will serve as criteria for the annual =
award.
The award will be presented at the 2013 STRONG Conference (May 6th -8th, 20=

STRONG is the First Nations Technology Council's Summit of Technology, Reso=
urces, Opportunities, Networks and Growth.
