Thank you for sharing! I am very happy to also offer this letter of suppor=
t that I recently received from one of the teachers at Shoreline Community =
Middle School. We are often focused on our services outside of our school =
family but note that CAP helps us provide vital support to vulnerable youth=
 in the area as well.

I am a high incidence teacher at Shoreline Middle School. My students have=
various disablities and many come from struggling families. One of my stud=
ents is in grade 8 and struggles with many learning challenges and social s=
kills. Break and lunch time is always very difficult for him as he doesn't=
have the social skills to successfully handle the unstructured time. My cl=
ass provides opportunities for him to develop these skills because break an=
d lunch are too difficult for him. However, over his three years at Shorel=
ine, the challenge has been what to offer him during break and lunch.

Through CAP and the computer access provided by the community school, my st=
udent is allowed to come into the room and use a computer during these bloc=
ks in the day. This has meant the world to him. His family struggles fina=
ncially and are not able to afford a computer. During his time on the comp=
uter, he is able to learn important fundamental life skills. He feels safe=
in the community school office and his anxiety around break and lunch has =
been greatly reduced.

Thank you for your contribution as I know it is helping many students.

Subject: [Sican] Success stories on use of ICTs in social services agencies

Hi,
This is a success story on use of ICTs in social service agencies from one =
of our volunteers:
I had one student that had been sent wedding photos of her niece, taken at =
Cornell University in the US. The photos were posted to a website and were =
password protected. Her niece had sent her the web site and the password to=
access the photos. She could not get into the website, she could not use t=
he password, and therefore could not get to see the wedding photos. Togethe=
r we figured out how to get to the photos. When we succeeded to unlock the =
photos her face lit up, she was so grateful for the assistance. I think now=
she is more fearless and will try different ways, push different keys with=
out fear of erasing and/or losing access to what she wants. For me it was a=
great feeling to have helped someone and see the results so immediately. W=
e went on to learn more about the internet, how to book an airline ticket, =
and to book a hotel on travel planning websites. I sure she still does it h=
erself. I have seen her post course at the main library on the public compu=
ters. Well she wanted to go to London England, which caught my attention, s=
he wanted to stay at the London school of economics. Again this raised my i=
nterest. Her answer to my curiosity was that she wanted to stay in visiting=
lecturer accommodation, during student school break week because there wou=
ld be empty rooms, it is in the middle of London within walking distance to=
everything see wanted to see, dorms were clean, with good security, good g=
round transportation to and from the school and the kicker was that it was =
affordable. ( http://www.lsevacations.co.uk/) She can now book on line. I t=
hought to myself how many major cities around the world have universities i=
n the middle of the city, even Canadian cities do e.g. Ottawa, Toronto, Mon=
treal. I learn as well from the students, and without the program this mutu=
al benefit would not happen. This is only one of many stories that demonstr=
ate the exchange value of the computer tutorial program. Many people are be=
ing encouraged by relatives to be part of the modern computer world and get=
connected to email particularly so they can keep in touch. The program hel=
ps many people make that first step and get connected to email and the inte=
rnet, and stay in touch with loved ones.

Thanks,
