This motto, thee cornerstone of MOO's latest sellout gambit, contains profound mysteries. But who gives a fuck about that? The point is, the human appetite for atrocity is boundless. Show people images of people selling their bodies, degrading themselves, torturing others, inflicting suffering for sexual satisfaction, and they eat it up like salivating dogs. Why? Why do we seem to seek, not just the lowest common denominator, but something to bring us even lower? It can't be a capitalist plot to convince us of the worthlessness of our bodies, our minds, and our souls, to convince us that we don't have the right to the produce of our labour, can it? It can't be a communist conspiracy to make us believe in the annihilation of the Self before the will of the Community, putting the good of the Whole before our own self-dignity, CAN IT? Could it be the Christian Fundamentalists, imposing their values on our minds - the submission of the body, the ATROCITY INHERENT IN SEXUAL DESIRE? What about Satan, flooding our minds with the desire to SIN? Hey, how about this one: it's a pack-instinct mind resurfacing, the interplay of sex and violence in the animal mind, derived from the twin needs for defense and reproduction, pack heirarchy emerging as dominance and submission? B&D, D&S, S&M as models of quantum flux between up and down in heirarchical modes? The willful assumption of the submissive role as a means of TAKING POWER, by ALLOWING control, violence, or degradation to be imposed as a means of ABSORBING IT, becoming ONE with the system of oppression in order to overcome it in our own mind? Or is it that the systems of oppression built into our minds have taught us the message sent down by the Overlords of Ig, that the rightful human condition is bondage and indolence?
No - more to the point: the human progression has been one from content to form. Archaic systems were territorial-driven: the ultimate substrate of their value system was the protection of a single patch of ground, home. The pack-mind, alphamale-driven territory-seeking mentality gave way to a hive-mind citydwelling mode of humanity, so that the territory size increased, the pack structure subsumed into the urban mode. Citystates, whose citizens owed absolute fealty to the monarch of the city (Gk. polis - origin of Police, those who ensure the sanctity of the city-state's pack heirarchy). Again, territories increased and became countries. But different countries were large, far away. Mere territoriality was hard to justify on the national scale when our instinct is to defend on the home-front first. When internal-security forces were perceived as as much of a threat as the Enemy in a faraway country, the King no longer commanded as much obedience. No, the way to go then was EPHEMERALIZATION. The terrain shifted. It wasn't the land, the physical surrealestate to be protectified, but the ideological domain that went with the government of the country. They were all governed in effectively the same way, necessity demands. But the propaganda created democracies, socialisms, protestants and catholics, hindus and buddhists, fascists and anarchists. Yeah, yeah. So anyway, the principle was a shift from territory to belief system. When science came in, the shift was away from collections of FACTS to collections of ways of THINKING: science is a system of rational experiment, not a sequence of dogmae. The conflict now, just as territorial-based in its roots, is between dogmatists and rationalists. Funny thing is, many rationalists are DOGMATICALLY rational: this is no different from the fact that the USA is "democratic" in its statement of principles, and ANYTHING BUT in the practice of its propagandic oligarchy. Or the way capitalism, a system which is founded on the freedom of the individual to produce and sell goods and services, turned into a propaganda machine of brain-control, or how Communism, a system founded on universal equality, created Serfs and Masters in Russia. It's a process in the human mind that reduces all the ephemeralized abstractions of the content-to-form transition all the way down to their origins in territorial conflict: ME uber alles. Yeah yeah.
So this is the same process, whatever it may be, that makes TV ministers seek out bondage whores after the Breakfast Hour With Christ. The ability of the human mind to fight for peace, fuck for virginity, and organize for anarchy. That's the point about selling our your ideals: anyone who has IDEALS will be, or at least can be, betrayed by the peculiar ability of the mind not to notice when it's doing something blatantly contradictory. Your ideals sometimes sell themselves out behind your back when you aren't looking, and everyone thinks the worse of YOU, as if you were responsible for what your body does when your brain's on vacation, or vice-versa. Once this happens, they start to lay you down with guilt (the gift that keeps on giving - or if it doesn't, there's something wrong with you) and corroding your mental stability (because everyone needs the support of their tribe). When you get unstable, you start to look for the atrocity, of the artists who nail themselves to volkswagens and have tantric sex for eighteen hours under a glass case in a gallery, charging $5.95 admission (plus tax, void where prohibited by law). No - these aren't atrocities, they're expressions of the side of the human mind that's suppressed by IDEALS, by RIGID LAWS that try to confine what's essentially a wild animal - the person. The digital frankenstein control dehumanizing enforcement unmoving pain system feedback monster overlord rules that turn Man and Woman into Sheep and Worm, that create Roy Cohn and J. Edgar Hoover, communist homosexuals, who hunted down and persecute comminists and homosexuals through the States, that made Jews turn Nazi, make women reject feminism and humans eat meat, the systems that leech the brain and melt the demons within into digestible pap to feed throuh the television demon tubes. Yea yeah YEAH baby!
No, look. Ideals melt your Self: you turn an ineluctable modality of SELFNESS into a compendium of rules and neuroses. Selling out is the inevitable result of a Radical Self adopting ideals. The scandal, the self-obsession with pain and guilt that leads us to seek atrocity and the horrifying to punish ourSelves for rejecting the ideals that we thought we believed in.

And just as that grew from territory, and meme-systems grew from belief systems, so MOO is the process of ever-ephemeraliztion. Gno, GNU is the process of ever-ephemeralization. MOO is simply the level that follows meme-systems: it's an interpenetrating web of not believing, not rigidifying its WAYS of beliving and testing belief. MOO is a way of thinking that takes ephemeralization one step further, but GNU is the process of ever-accelerating the change in yourSELF, turning your thoughts outward, the outward urge.
It can be disorienting. Make it hard to think straight sometimes, when you believe in communicapitalanarchosyndemocratolicarcholicism, shifting perpetually between the rational mindset and the fundamentalist, taking each new belief in fact or in system of fact-finding and question it, take it as a low-level object to be considered, and inventing new high-level objects to think about it with, then turning them down too. Not only depth, mind you, but breadth is important as well. It takes a community to keep the mind stable when doing these exercises. Try to do them alone and you simply trigger the schizophrenic response of degenerating brainmeltfat systems argh fuck kill bugs bugs bugs. Anyway, the point is!

The point is this: every man and wombat is a star (tonight: one night only, now appearing with the amazing Larry the High- Flying Trapeze Hippo) and when you BELIEVE something, or take a STANCE, the star will burn you. Hipocrisy is you GODDESS-GIVEN RIGHT, your HOLY DUTY, or you'll end up fucking for peace, organizing for virginity, and fighting for anarchy. Or something like that. Be an amazing High-Flying Trappist Hypocrite in the GNU Age Context, or you'll be one in your own ineluctible way without even meaning to.
The concept of CREDIBILITY is linked to ideals: you can't trust ME. You can only judge my ideas for what they say. So don't take my word for it. After all, I'm just a schizophrenic hippo crit. But if you find yourself hunting atrocity in your own life, or turning your furloined hilbert taximetric raincoat, eating your peas with honey, or censoring for democracy, maybe the ideas that have eaten MY brain deserve a chance to destroy YOUR mind as well. Maybe my apparent semi-incoherence is a result of constantly encountering negative feedback from within and without, a result of a society that condemns hypocrisy.
Maybe that's just the rationalization of a lunatic.
