We need to tell them CAP means "everything to disadvantage individuals =
and
families that do not have computer access, cannot afford same BUT DO =
travel
to a public site to try to take advantage and better themselves. We =
could
talk about how our work with CAP has led to us being the coordinators of =
our
Broadband implementation, which brought high speed to many of our rural
area, however we have so many low income people who can't afford =
Internet at
any price. =20

Subject: [Advisors] meeting with Industry Canada -- Dec. 8th

Hello advisors.

We suddenly got a response from Industry Canada late last week inviting =
us
to meet with one of Minister Paradis' policy advisors -- Bruce =
Winchester.
The meeting date offered was Thursday, Dec. 8th. Darlene and Monique =
(with
Patrick Dub=E9) and possibly Peter Frampton jumped on board and we =
accepted
the offer. Because of the travel involved (Nunavut) we have been =
accorded a
bit more time than usual -- 45 min -
1 hour. Darlene and Monique will both be bringing power points to show =
off
their innovative projects. Darlene will also bring (hot off the press) =
a
copy of the book she has been working on (with Clarice) describing 40
innovative CAP projects. I am putting together a small booklet with few
short (one page) versions of CAP stories highlighting community-based
services as digital economy building blocks (this is a work in progress =
but
I'm putting together what I can for this meeting.)

Our elevator pitch is as follows:

We are there to present a vision of CAP 2.0 that uses the creativity and
innovation in the community to achieve social and economic benefits the
communities themselves have=20
identified as important. We will try to make=20
the case that community innovation is really valuable and very
cost-effective -- but it needs some basic level of support to achieve =
the
stability necessary to start up and run such programmes.

After our meeting with In Can we are going to head down the street and =
make
a similiar presentation at the CIRA offices.

Wish us luck (whatever that means in this context)!!!!

Marita
