[Advisors] TC workshops at the summit

I realize this is a very strange note so let me clarify.
Saskatchewan has four regions. The North, some of the libraries, the East
and the West. Does that help?

In Saskatchewan most of the rural libraries are opened for about 12 hours
per week and many are not CAP sites.

Many of our CAP sites are in libraries. Funding has provided computers,
technical support and increased hours of service. We just moved 5 CAP sites
into libraries. They are struggling to meet the needs of the clients as
they are in boom areas. None of our 70 First Nation communities have public
libraries so where do they go for access. Those communities have very large
population that depend on the CAP sites doing job applications, resumes.
What are they going to do?

In Nunavut, the libraries have NO budget for computers or technical support.
The only support they receive is through the CAP program.

The Province of Manitoba opted out of being an MOA this fiscal year, ( the
agreement for Manitoba is now with us the Manitoba E-Association). the
Province has also indicated that unless there is a major revamp and a
guarantee of multiple year funding or at a minimum notification of next year
funding prior to the end of March, they will not participate as an MOA
partner. With regard to the libraries, the only libraries in the province
which do not received funding and technical support under CAP from Manitoba
E-Association for the provision of internet to its users are those in the
city of Winnipeg. There are 86 libraries classified as rural that receive
CAP funding through us. So to say that libraries can handle this on their
own is for Manitoba a misnomer.

Once we have a name for the workshop and an idea of who is attending we
should send an invitation to the Minister and every level of IC CAP staff

send one to Sonia but it's been many years since anyone has attended to
discuss CAP.

Hi folks. Eric Stackhouse has reminded me that a contingent from N.S. is
attending the Summit and one thing they would like to see is a discussion on
how to move forward with CAP. Yes, this would be more than appropriate,
right now!

So, who else is attending and do you have any ideas on how you would like
structure such a discussion.

I will be there and I will be happy to either moderate or be a speaker --
depending on how we decide to structure this. I will also put together a
workshop description and send it to summit organizers
-- once we decide on the best way to proceed.

Over to you!

Marita
