[Advisors] consultation re: WSIS outcomes

Attached please find the contribution of the Just Net Coalition in response
to the WSIS +10 discussion paper ("non-paper").

Since I have been pre-occupied with family matters for the last few months
my contribution to this statement was quite limited and as a consequence it
did not include the following which I have submitted to the WSIS +10
consultation process independently of the JNC statement.

 

Special attention should be paid to the support of grassroots and local
community based ICT for Development efforts specifically in the provision of
local Internet access, training and the development and management of the
range of Internet enabled services and activities which provide the
framework and impetus for development.

Hello all.  I have been invited to be part of a one day consultation that
will inform the United Nations assessment on the outcomes of the World
Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). This consultation is being hosted
by the CIRA, with the assistance of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO.  It
is described as a facilitated discussion about Canadian priorities in the
global development of ICT and the Internet, as well as the role Canadians
can play in facilitating the inclusion of these important technologies in
development. 

I only got this invite a few days ago.  The event is on Wednesday. Not much
time to prepare -- I was probably on the "B" list.  I would be happy to
receive any input that might help inform my participation.
