*Digital Skills 4 Youth (DS4Y) program for 2018-2020*

The Vancouver Community Network (VCN) is the Innovation, Science and
Economic Development Canada’s (ISED) Delivery Organizations for the
Digital Skills for Youth program in Western Canada – Manitoba,
Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

We will be working to place 180 young technically trained individuals
into paid internships.

ISED commitment is to supplement the wage paid to an Internet
Communications Technology intern by $12,000 and provide each intern with
paid time off for extra training, upskilling and soft skill
acquisition.  ISED will provide an additional $3000 contribution for
this training.

The DS4Y program will combine valuable work experience and training
related to digital skills for underemployed recent post-secondary
graduates so that they can successfully transition to the labour market.

EMPLOYER WILL HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE HOW THEY:

·can provide valuable employment opportunities related to digital
activities;

·have the appropriate administrative support and capacity to train and
mentor the participants to enhance and maximize the participant’s
experience;

·will support the participants in the development and implementation of
work activities to provide participants with a meaningful internship as
described in the key performance indicators; and

·can promote digitization of their business and/or operational processes.

Hiring of the intern is within the small business or non-profit
organization’s responsibility. As the delivery agent, we can work with
the hosts to post the job advertisements and short list qualified
candidates.

VCN will reimburse the employer over the term of the internship for
payroll, including mandatory employment related costs to a maximum of
$12,000.

Please distribute this within your network to get the youth working in
their career-related field.  Connect with us at coordinator at vcn.bc.ca
<mailto:coordinator at vcn.bc.ca>.

all the best, Tracey
