Hi everyone,
I'm writing on behalf of the 2020 Indigenous Connectivity Summit
<https://www.internetsociety.org/events/indigenous-connectivity-summit/2020/>(ICS).
Following the success of last year's pre-ICS training, we are
re-offering the Community Networks and Policy and Advocacy training
sessions
<https://www.internetsociety.org/events/indigenous-connectivity-summit/2020/trainings/>.
These training sessions, facilitated by experts from communities across
the US and Canada, will teach participants how to build, sustain, and
advise others on community networks and the federal policies that impact
them. *All ICS events are free and open access -- see links below on how
to sign up.*
The training sessions will each consist of a six-week course with one
90-minute session per week. They will begin the week of September 1st
and run through October 5th, culminating in a virtual hands-on training
for CN participants and the creation of a set of policy recommendations
for the Policy and Advocacy participants. Find more information here,
register here, and please share this information with your community.
The final training sessions will also serve as the kick-off for this
year's virtual Indigenous Connectivity Summit. The ICS will be held from
October 5 - 9, 2020 and will bring together Indigenous leaders,
community members, community network operators and managers, Internet
service providers, researchers and policy makers with a common goal:
connecting Indigenous communities to fast, affordable and sustainable
Internet. This year's Summit will focus on building partnerships,
advocating for regulatory changes, and discussion surrounding how the
group can respond to the challenges p COVID-19 and the Internet, as well
as how to take advantage of upcoming opportunities for connectivity.
Find more information *here
<https://www.internetsociety.org/events/indigenous-connectivity-summit/2020/trainings/>*,
and *register here <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PBLK6DP> before
September 11th* to receive a hands-on training kit and swag bag in the
mail prior to the Summit.
We hope that you will join us for each of these opportunities, and that
you will share them with your community!
Rob
