Mark
has developed a reputation for restorations and rebuilds
of classic wooden yachts , from designers such as Fife,
Alden , Rhodes And Herreshoff . In the Pacific Northwest
there are only a small handful of builders with the skills
to work on these fine wooden yachts , Mark Wallace is one
of them. He has a real skill at detailing each boat in an
authentic and appropriate way . Currently he is doing a
complete restoration of the 1934 Fife six meter ' Saskia
II " Given the excellent exchange rate for the american
dollar , anyone looking to build or restore any wooden craft
up to 50 feet , should consider Mark and his shop for the
job . I highly recommend Mark as a good honest craftsman
.

The quality of Mark's work has improved steadily over the
years that I've know him to the point where he is one of
the best yacht joiners around. Combine that with his practical
sailing experience and it makes his shop a great place to
have work done on your boat.
- Paul Gartside naval architect
The Pacific North West coast of North America is blest with
some of the finest boat building wood in the world , and
also some of the finest ship wrights. In this select group
I would place Mark Wallace in the top of the list. Over
the past fifteen years he has carried out a number of modifications
as well as routine repairs to my 42 foot Monk/Garden troller
yacht SCAUP.The work has always been to a standard meeting
or exceeding my expirations. In addition to the high standard
of workmanship, the other real joy of having Wallace doing
the job is his faultless design sense. His early training
in furniture design undoubtedly enhanced his natural ability
and the results are wonderful, he has a perfect sense of
what is appropriate.
Having seen his work on a number of other ships apart from
my own I am always struck by his lack of ego, his ability
to match the work of the original builder be it Fife, or
a competent fisherman building solid workboats on the B.C.
coast. There is of course a down side to every great man
and in this case you should be forewarned that, your being
delighted with the work, and about to happily pay the bill,
you will be subjected to a tour of inspection of the job,
in which Wallace will point out all of what he perceives
are the flaws, not withstanding your delight in his job.
I am happy to give him my highest recommendation.

" I eagerly showed Mark Wallace how I wanted the interior appointments of my magnificent yacht to look. He recorded all with sincerity and retired to consider the schedule of work. Later we met and he quietly proposed subtle alternatives to my ideas...the design must 'Read' he described....he was absolutely right. I now own a vessel of further distinction, made possible by the sincerity of this rare Artisan."
