I have read through the CATA documents and as far as I can tell, their =
mandate is to support telecom equipment providers. Specifically, =
lobbying for federal funding of product development. I have not seen any =
concrete initiative on the part of CATA to help communities build =
services.
Their public rhetoric often implies they are concerned about community =
access. However, when asked specifically about community involvement =
their spokes people - including Mr. Reid, become silent. Public =
announcements of support from various local politicians does not count =
as community involvement, at least in my view.
Not to be too cynical, but I wonder why CATA would get involved with =
what is an already well established charity program, if not simply an =
attempt to revamp the image of the telecomm industry.
