Susan,

this is extraordinarily timely for me, and I'm grateful you've brought =
it to my attention.

I have opportunities this month to engage key decision makers in the =
Alberta Government and the oil sands industry with a community broadband =
proposition focused on First Nations and rural/remote communities more =
broadly.

My collaborator is Craig Dobson of TaylorWarwick Consulting, who has =
played key technical roles in advancing the FTTH initiative in Olds.=20

Craig now serves on the Board of Directors for community-owned Olds =
Fibre Ltd.

I was already planning to draw attention to K-Net, but I will instead =
draw attention to First Mile and *all* of the community initiatives =
across the country that are involved.=20

This gives me added leverage that could be instrumental in securing the =
commitment and support needed from industry, government and other key =
stakeholders here in Alberta, especially leaders in Alberta's =
municipal/community sector.=20

FYI, the vision-driven initiative that Craig and I are working to =
advance is called PICTURE, an acronym for Putting ICT to Use in Rural =
Economies.=20

A key area of need will be peer-to-peer mentoring for community =
broadband champions here in Alberta, which I suspect you are squarely =
focused on.

I look forward to exploring how we can collaborate with First Mile going =
forward, and would welcome the opportunity to participate in your next =
videoconference.=20

Again, thank you for reaching out.

Kind regards,

James
