Garth,

I believe it's a matter of helping to create that "significant ally", =
and the sooner the better.

The community/municipal sector is the lowest-hanging fruit, but it has =
to be properly rallied to the cause.=20

I am channelling much of my volunteer time into iCANADA for this reason.=20=

They now have the required nationwide footprint in the =
municipal/community sector, but they could be a lot more effective in =
advancing the agenda.=20

They are also well connected to the tech sector, which shares our =
frustration with pace of development in Canada.

Cloud service vendors are particularly keen to see everyone in the =
country able to access their services.

We first need an inspiring narrative to get everyone engaged and =
aligned.

We then need leadership that can really *own* the narrative.

The leadership we presently have may be too old and too corporate and =
stodgy in character.

Impassioned youth could and should be the most powerful force to drive =
progress.

We first need the inspiring vision and narrative to get them engaged and =
aligned.

I think this is where TC could best focus its limited time and energy, =
starting with asking the right question.

Here's the question that guides my own thoughts and actions:

In relation to ICT, what difference can a fully included and fully =
enabled Canadian population make to the future of Canada and the world?

This is the leadership that is most needed today, and it's the =
leadership that I believe TC can provide.=20

I actually believe that TC is the most credible and capable agent in the =
country to pose such a question and facilitate emergence of a powerful =
vision and narrative around it.

TC's longstanding focus on digital inclusion sets it apart in a =
fundamentally important way.=20

The roles for TC are straightforward:

1) Reach out and collaborate with a few key partners to craft the most =
engaging question possible, starting with the people who have the =
biggest stake in the future (youth).=20

2) Create an on-line forum and invite *everyone* in Canada into a dialog =
around the question, leveraging established social media channels.=20

3) Be wise, positive, encouraging and generous in advancing the =
conversation. We all have to own the vision and the narrative.=20

The rest will take care of itself, including the emergence of a =
'significant ally' (maybe iCANADA, maybe something new).=20

So... do we want to get this conversation started?

James (hell ya!)
