- Q: How do I register as a Member?
- A: Go back to the home page to "Sign Up! and view our user agreement and online registration form. To register an account, 1) read and agree to our User Agreement, 2) Fill in the online form, 3) Optional: print and fill out the printable form, 3) Postal Mail the printable form to us with your membership fee or pay online using our secure payment gateway.
- Q: How do I sign up for a service account like Dialup/PPP access?
- A: Go back to the home page to "Sign Up! to read and agree to our user agreement. Go to the Registration Form and choose a service then fill in the online registration form. You can pay online with Visa or MasterCard or postal mail a check.
- Q: What is SSH and where has the Telnet link gone?
- A: SSH protocol is used to connect to a remote computer to do things like file transfers and terminal access. "SSH is a cryptographically protected remote login protocol that replaces insecure telnet and rlogin protocols. It provides strong protection against password sniffing and third party session monitoring, better protecting your authentication credentials and privacy." - winscp.net.
- Q: What does PPP mean?
- A: PPP stands for Point to Point Protocol and relates to Dialup Service. It's the language your computer speaks in order to get Internet access via your modem.
- Q: How do I check my e-mail?
- A: You can always use our webmail service (also located on the home page), but if you would like to set up your e-mail client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Apple Mail, etc.) the method will differ slightly for each client.
- Q: How do I set up Outlook Express to check my e-mail?
- A: Follow the steps listed here. Our e-mail server is POP3. Both POP3 and SMTP are "mail.victoria.tc.ca" (without the quotes). We do not use SPA. If you have any problems, please call us.
- Q: How do I set up Eudora to check my e-mail?
- A: Mac users follow these setup instructions, and Windows users follow these setup instructions. The same information as above applies.
