These problems are usually caused by problems with your software settings or terminal (emulation) type.
Sometimes, however, you will be greeted with what appears to be a screen-full of 'garbage' characters when you connect. This is usually associated with the way the last session ended and can often be cleared by pressing your 'space-bar'.
In very rare cases, the space-bar will not clear your screen. If this happens you can try a 'blind' login.
